I was trying to decide on a comic book related costume for New York Comic Con 2022, and I've realized, I really enjoy cosplaying characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But there aren't really any more of Nat's costumes I want to do, nor any other genderbent Iron Man ones, so I decided to go back to the beginning, and see who else I might want to try my hand at. While I'm not a diehard Peggy Carter fan the way my friend Nicole is, you can't help but love her in the first Captain America movie, and I *am* very much a fan of military uniforms, and how I look in military uniforms. I also wanted to see if I could rock the 1940s aesthetic. I also thought--and this will come back later--that I could get away with not wearing a wig. Granted Peggy has shorter hair than I do, but I know that can be faked--look at what my friend Avian Firefly did for me for my Snow White Lolita. She turned my waist-length hair into a curly pageboy with a hidden braid and a batallion of bobby pins.

I bought the costume from AllCosplay.com, because I decided this a bit late in the year, and they have the fastest turnaround time. That being said, I do really like the way it looks, aside from the "decals" instead of pins on the lapels, I may try to upgrade that before I wear this again. I already owned a black tie (not for cosplay, just because), and the black heels are the same ones I wear for Zatanna. I don't think I did too terrible a job on the makeup, although I think I could do better. That hair, though--whew. I also waited too long to call my usual hair salon for an appointment, and they were booked solid, as were three other local places I tried. The last place was brand new to me, and to be honest they were just terrible--I brought along a picture of what I wanted done, and they tried three different hairstyles that were not even close (the first one was basically a Topsy Tail that they curled the ends of), and they took over two hours doing it, and when I asked to leave because I was getting desperate enough to attempt it at home myself, they kept saying "Wait no we've almost got it." They did not. (I mean look--they even put her quasi-bangs on the wrong side!) I look forward to trying this style again with my regular hair salon.

UPDATE! My friend Neil asked if I'd be willing to wear Peggy again...to join him in his photo op with Chris Evans! If anything was ever worthy of updating a costume, it's that. I bought new pins from militaryuse2014 on eBay (they're just perfect) and made an appointment with my regular stylist a full month in advance. Even my makeup came out better this time!
