Anime Expo New York 2002
Day Two
1 PM to 10 PM
Sailor Jupiter and "Bandit"
|
I needed to be there at 1 for the COSP photo shoot, which I did NOT want to miss! But I made it. We also took the NYO! list group photo. Then I saw this REALLY hot guy who was an AMAZING Cloud...so Crissy did her first ever glomp! I was very polite about it, though, I went up to him and said, "May I glomp you?" And he looked at his sign, which I hadn't noticed, which said "hugs and kisses $1" and he said, "For you, for free." But then when someone went to take our picture, I was out of film. Ahh! I ran up to the eighth floor to buy a disposable one. I then spent most of my free time for the next several hours trying to find him again--preferably as Cloud, he was also dressing as Squall, which to be honest he did look more like, but I prefer Cloud. |

I also finally met up with Usagi Kou, who was dressed as a GORGEOUS Neo Queen Serenity, and met her fiancé, who was cosplaying as Neo King Endymion. |
|
This little girl won all our hearts as Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. |

I got to hang out with them quite a bit, just chilling and talking--which was nice, I felt like we were old friends. I tried to glomp a Terry Bogard cosplayer but he was kind of mean to me. I did get some pics though, and he apologized later, so I guess it's okay. Usagi Kou and her fiancé and I cruised the dealer's room looking for hot Cloud, and ended up ambushing the guys from CNN trying to get interviewed, which we did. I saw another hot Japanese guy who I was kind of smiling shyly at because he was so good-looking, when he actually came up to me and asked for my picture. I made someone take one of both of us, instead, and gave him my e-mail, so hopefully he will e-mail me, even though he is from Japan. Our group rehearsed the skit at 4, which went really well, partially due to the fact that I still had the script with me. We did it twice with no problems. |

Then got something to eat, which I really needed, with DJ Ranma S and this other guy in our group (gomen, I forgot your name!). |

Then we went back and I stalked the hot Cloud (which is what he ended up being called) with s0ni and Anna. We finally found him and I got my pic with him, and he said he was looking for me! Usagi Kou sent him after me! Got more Sailor Moon pics today, Neo Queen Serenity and Endymion, Eudial, and Mistress 9, which was cool. Lots of pics were taken with me, especially while I was with Usagi Kou, but I think less than were taken yesterday. The cosplay line up started at 6. We were fine until some people found out that you had to prerecorded your dialogue. Now, I don't want to start anything, but the rules DID say that you had to. I only know because when Ranma asked me to be in the skit, I reread the rules because he said he found a loophole about costumes, and I pointed out the prerecording thing to him. |
Terry Bogard again |
Apparently, a LOT of people missed it--he would have if I hadn't caught it. (I feel especially bad because Usagi Kou was one of the ones who didn't know.) |

When we finally got in, the staff broke down and said they'd set up mics. I'm glad everyone got to do their lines. Some thoughts about prerecorded dialogue and live dialogue:
You CAN hear prerecorded dialogue. You can't usually hear live dialogue, even with mics. People are not used to mics, and especially people who want to move around and talk from everywhere. BUT prerecorded dialogue sucks because, for one thing, ours got a little messed up (not too bad though) AND it doesn't allow for audience reaction, so stuff gets missed. PLUS we didn't get to rehearse with it, and we had all recorded our lines separately, so we weren't really sure when things would be said. |
There were two Lulus from Final Fantasy X and they were both awesome. |
I thought everything was organized fine, but other people were complaining that it was unorganized and we weren't being respected. |

I don't know if cosplayers are just overly sensitive, especially right before they know they are going to go onstage, or if I'm just used to putting up and shutting up from dealing with directors. But it was better than BAAF's cosplay last year--at least they had judges beforehand.
BUT all of the skits were really good. I won't go into who all won, since I couldn't take any pics from where we were seated (but at least we could see the whole thing on a screen) but everyone who won deserved to win. The level of professionalism was very high. Many skits were hilarious, and the dancing ones were beautiful. Our skit made people laugh, which made me feel great, but I think next year I will either cosplay alone, or in a very well organized group, or not at all, depending. Oh, and they played fanmade anime music videos, one of which (Sailor Moon on Jerry Springer) made me laugh so hard I cried, to keep us entertained while they judged--very smart. Widya looked dashing in a tux as emcee. |
Hot Cloud! (dressed as Squall) |
Awards went on for a long time, mainly because the judges kept explaining why they picked who they picked (I understand why they did, but it's not like the people who are the type to complain aren't going to complain anyway, and the people who understood what they said probably wouldn't have complained in the first place) but as I said, all the winners were excellent. |
