I had originally looked at the stock versions that were available on the cosplay websites a year prior, but I hadn't been impressed with them; the gold trim was just screen printed on, they didn't have the cutout at the neck, the sleeves were the wrong shape, etc. Once I knew I was going to NYCC, I put out an open call on my Facebook to see who had the time and energy to attempt this for me. My friends Patti and Steph of Starlit Creations volunteered, and let me tell you, they are AMAZING. I knew they would be, of course, but when even the mockup made out of scrap fabric looked amazing, I was blown away. They bought the most beautiful satin fabric in two shades of blue, digitized the pattern on her qipao and cut it out of vinyl so all of the lines would be crisp and clean, and even made the mirrored black and gold lining. They 3D printed and then hand painted her new bracelets. I bought a pair of men's kung fu shoes off of eBay and electric blue spandex workout pants and shipped it to them so they could attach the matching gold trim, and ordered some ballerina hair donuts in order to do her new updated oxhorn hair style. And I may be biased, but this just may be the most beautiful costume they've ever made for me, and I can't thank them enough.
