I really wanted a new costume for Otakon that was canon rather than derivative. When I found out my friend Fory-san was cosplaying as Nozomi in the outfit from the Season 1 opening song, I figured it would be simple enough to match, right? Love Live is still popular enough that they're available on most of the costume selling websites. And I had been meaning to add more Maki costumes to my roster for a while now.

Well, for whatever reason, this version of Maki was not readily available, but I was able to find one seller on eBay who had it. The product picture looked good, so I bought it, and...well this is eBay's third strike in selling me a costume that was not only pretty different from the picture, but also unwearable as delivered. The skirt the seller sent me wasn't so much a skirt as two aprons attached together, and the vertical slit made where they met flashed everything to the known world. In the seller's defense, when I wrote to them and explained (with pictures) why I couldn't wear what they had sent me, they sent me a new, larger skirt...that still had the same problem, only slightly less so. In desperation, I ended up sewing all four layers together to make sure I had enough coverage to not get arrested. The plaid pattern was also just the same color ribbon, so I ended up bringing it to work and coloring over with one of my Prismacolor markers so it would stand out more. (And I wore it backwards for most of the day to boot.) The shirt was WAY too big, and had to be brought to a local tailor to be taken in. Oh, and the hat the sent me was roughly the size of Abe Lincoln's stovepipe hat, so I had to buy a smaller one on Amazon and transfer the ribbon to it. The costume also didn't include the black thigh highs (which I thankfully had), gloves, or boots, but I found some really nice ones (the boots especially, I'm looking forward to wearing them with other costumes) on Amazon as well. All in all, while I'm *very* happy I got to cosplay with Fory-san at last, I don't forsee myself wearing this costume often.
