August 19 - August 21

Day Three

Tenjou Utena

Sunday! Yay! Last day of the con! And in some ways, the day I was most looking forward to, because it would be the first time I had ever organized a photoshoot. I've been in a couple, but this is the first time I ever tried to put one together myself. (Although I say "myself" loosely; as the months went on, I had a LOT of help from all of my friends.)

Lou as Touga from Utena

Saturday morning, we woke up early(ish--hey, I'm not getting up at 6 AM, I count a con weekend as a vacation!), grabbed breakfast in the hotel, got dressed, got "wigged", got made up, checked out downstairs, and left our luggage with the hotel for one final day of costumed madness. We took a last trip through the dealer's room, where I don't believe I bought anything (it's hard to get excited about deals on manga, when Midtown Comics offers $20 of merchandise free after every time you hit the $100 mark, you know?), and then decided to try to gather our friends early, as our scheduled photoshoot time seemed uncomfortably close to our departure time. So Lou and I made our way towards the fountains, and started calling people.

Me as Utena from Utena

We managed to locate most of our friends, and almost all of them agreed to come over early--I don't think anyone else was wearing any other costumes that day, so no one had to change, and I think everyone was free because I think everyone the last day of a con kind of easy. Jessie, the girl I met the day before, was one of the first people to arrive, and immediately flashbulbs started going off around her. She and her costume are that beautiful!

Another Utena!
It was around this time that I first noticed that my costume had one teeny, tiny, minor malfunction: it liked to pop open. A lot. Like if I moved my arms back too much, BURST! boobs-a-popping. Now, I had more then a spangled pasty on underneath, so I wasn't too horrified, but still, given my druthers, I prefer to keep my breasts inside of my costumes, thank you. So Louis had a new job: grab Crissy's coat shut. Fun times, fun times. I don't think anybody got any fanservice pictures that day. I hope not, anyway.

Princess Daisy from the Super Mario games! I'd love to do this costume myself someday.

More and more of our group started arriving, so we moved off to the side of the escalator and just started posing and snapping away. Selphie Fairy and her stopwatch got to be Miki to Avian Firefly as the incredibly sexy Kozue, who had way too much fun playing with the Tougas who showed up. Jamie was my teeny tiny perfect-sized Wakaba and we got SO many good pictures together, I was so happy, and I hope I justified Jamie going out and getting a brand new costume just for this group, which was so awesome of her.

Me and Sai!.

Of course, all action stopped when Brian showed up on the scene in his famous movie Rosebride Anthy gown. Immediately a bunch of Anthy cosplayers got down on their knees before him, bowing and chanting, "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" B-chan really is the standard to which all Anthy cosplayers measure themselves against. :)

Me and Lou with Rei-sama!

Then Lou and Rich posed together and more people took pictures of them. What. The. Why does that happen? I don't know. It's really, REALLY funny when it does, though. Also, I need to stop here and mention that Usagi Seion was SUCH a sweetie, helping us by holding people's cameras and cell phones and taking pictures, and fixing costumes and also being on Crissy-boob duty, I don't know what I would have done without her.

Me and The Calzone!

I'd really like to thank all the photographers who shot us that weekend--David Ng of course, my special love; Dr. Teng who always manages to make me feel sexy no matter what I actually look like; and Eurobeat King for taking such truly stunning photos that showed off everybody's really hard work.

Lou and Ender.

Sadly, Lou and I had to leave the con earlier than pretty much all the rest of our friends, which was quel dommage, but we had to catch our bus home. (Oh, that bus home. Even now I don't have the emotional strength to get into the Miltonesque HORROR that was our trip home. Suffice it to say, Lou and I will not be taking Grayhound to NEXT year's Otakon.) So we kissed and hugged everyone goodbye, promised to upload our photos, and rode off into the sunset.

Me and Eric!

The End.

Lou's only gay for Ender.
Lou had a LOT of photographs taken of him as Touga, too.
Probably because he makes such a particularly good one.

We had SO much fun this day.
And then I had to leave, and it sucked.
I got one more Utena pic before I left, though.
