Jess and I wanted to do another photoshoot together, and one night when we were meeting for lunch, she had a book of surrealist paintings that featured a woman holding a white rose to her nose. Maybe it's just because I always associate this show with Jess, but it immediately made me think of Utena. Soon afterwards, we got a Nordstrom catalogue at work that had this great pink haired model on the cover, with over-the-top makeup that I really wanted to try.

Not long after that, Jess contacted me during the day to see if I was busy at night. It just so happened I had an entire evening free (a rarity) so I asked if she wanted to hold an impromptu photoshoot in my basement that night. With her boyfriend Smitty in tow, who happens to be a fantastic lighting designer and technician, we shot over a hundred photographs in front of a bare white background, but for space purposes I'm presenting here 30 of our favorite takes.
