It has always been my intention to do all of Sailor Mars’ costumes, and while starting with her original made sense, and doing Eternal second because it was my favorite, I wanted to do her Princess dress third, in part because it’s so different from anything else she wears. However, what made it extra special was that it was my grandparent’s gift to me for my 21 st birthday, which is a time of reflection and transition if there ever is one. I hoped to acquire a little bit of the elegance and refinement I had always seen in Princess Mars.

Speaking strictly physically, my favorite things about this dress are the attention to detail: the gold trim Setsuna put on the straps, for example, matches the artbook pictures exactly, as do the matching necklace and earrings. However, there are a few things I’d change about the dress. Because it’s one of my favorite forms, I’m considering spending the money to have it remade out of high quality fabric, and to make sure the light red panel in the middle of the dress pleats properly.
