It's funny how costumes like this come about. In February of 2007, I had idly posted a cosplay survery in my LiveJournal, and one of the questions was "What is your current favorite anime, and have you cosplayed it yet?" Louis and I just happened to be watching Magic Knight Rayearth at that point (part of his "I must see every anime ever made!" quest), and in my answer I mentioned that I adored the character designs, especially some of the outfits they wore in the artbooks, but since it was an older anime and not as popular as say Sailor Moon, I'd probably never get around to cosplaying it unless I was invited to join a group or something.
It just so happened that Lady Terentia, who had made her successful cosplay debut as Outer Power, Inner Beauty's Sailor Mercury the year before, read my journal, and told me that Fuu was her favorite anime character of all time. Putting out a call on my LiveJournal soon scored us a Hikaru, a longtime online friend of mine named Arlette.
I contacted Beverly Faerie about making Lady Terentia's and my costumes (Arlette, a longtime cosplayer, made her own) because she had just recently made Deedlit and Pirotess costumes for her and our friend Laura, and I was really impressed by how they came out. I bought three different wigs online before I found the perfect-colored one on eBay, grabbed a pair of (just barely too small) boots off of Electrique Boutique, and found baby blue thigh-highs from We Heart Colors Inc. the WEEK of the convention.
It was definitely worth it. Sunday morning, everything came together, we had all three Magic Knights at once, and people actually gasped when they saw our costumes. Lady Terentia and Arlette really, really looked fantastic, and I owe them both so much, I was proud to stand at their sides.
